Léa RENARD, a 4th-year student at MoPA, presents MOUSE QUEST, her 1-minute final film from the 3rd year on the theme of RETRO GAMING.
2024
As the prophecy has it, three heroes set off on an adventure to defeat the creature that terrifies their people.
Through this film, Léa hoped to share her passion for video games by making a nod to the codes of the RPG and medieval fantasy genres. The idea was also to experiment with a mixed pipeline between 3dsmax and Blender software for a cel-shaded rendering. But what is cel-shading... we'll explain! It's a technique that aims to give a 3D animation the same rendering as a cartoon by playing with the attenuation of textures and contours.
The student's biggest challenge in this project was organisation. She challenged herself to use Blender animation software, which she had never used before. So Léa had to be very efficient in combining learning the software with the requirements of her film.
Léa really appreciated being able to share an idea from the first drafts of the script through to the final stage with compositing and post-production. It was a great opportunity for her to tell a story and bring it to life through animation.
Thanks to this project, the future 3D animator feels confirmed in her choice of speciality. The film gave her a final look at the whole pipeline, the process used to create animated videos involving pre-production, design, animation, sound design and post-production.
Léa told us that she was delighted to have had the opportunity to work on this project from start to finish. It motivates her to imagine and animate lots of new stories.
