Did you enjoy the making-of of “Ceux Pour qui la Lune ne Brille Pas”, “SpaceDan”, “Emboucanator”, “Quand les Chamois se Taisent” and “Guerre Froide”? You'll love immersing yourself in the horrific world of “Zone Blanche”, the graduation film by 6 students at the MoPA animation school: Carole NAGELEN, Enola PARDON, Maria MINAEVA, Marie-Ange LOMBARD, Marie-Lys MATHIAS and Sarah BRENU.
An original horror scenario
“Zone Blanche” tells the story of the expedition of Lev and Ilya, two Russian geographers sent to an unexplored part of 19th-century Siberia. The two protagonists' mission is to map the region, but it all takes a sinister turn when the two young men are confronted by a mysterious force... For the first time at the MoPA school, a short horror film is presented as a graduation film. Blending tension, mystery and character development, this ambitious story plunges viewers into an icy chill.
Spine-chilling aesthetics
Divided between the Animation and Image options, our 6 young directors were able to make the most of each other's skills. Sharing the tasks of rigging, modeling, texturing, lighting, grooming and clothing, each team member created a credible and immersive visual universe.
Inspired by classics such as “Alien” and “The Thing”, “Zone Blanche” is distinguished by its retro style: cinematic grain, an “old film” effect, strong contrasts and geometric shapes reinforce the oppressive atmosphere. As the story progresses, the horror intensifies. The scenery becomes increasingly distorted, adding a visual touch that amplifies the viewer's unease. Finally, the Siberian landscape confuses us even more, because in the collective unconscious, horror is associated with blackness and dark atmospheres, in stark contrast to the immaculate white of “Zone Blanche”.
Towards new horizons
With its original script and visual quality, “Zone Blanche” will travel to a number of animation festivals this year, in the hope of winning a good number of selections. For our young directors, this project marks a major step in their career in 3D animation, marking the end of their studies and the start of their professional careers.
