On the podium at the Petit Prix de Rome!

Our student Mélissa is on the podium at the "Petit Prix de Rome", a painting competition organised by the Reattu Museum in Arles.

Currently in her 1st year at our animation school, Mélissa has chosen to participate in the 5th edition of the “Petit Prix de Rome” painting competition organised by the Reattu Museum. This competition is a nod to the “Grand Prix de Rome” that Jacques Réattu, a painter from Arles, won in 1790. The participants were invited to create a painting on a given theme in only 72 days. This year's theme was “The painting Jacques Réattu never created”.

For Melissa, participating in this competition was an opportunity to paint in between her various assignments for MoPA. While reading the brief, she quickly found the answer to the puzzle. The brief stated: “A resident of the Grand Prieuré from 1796 until his death and the artist of several landscape paintings created during his career, Réattu never painted the view of the Rhône from his windows. So follow in his footsteps, admire this inspiring landscape and look out your brushes!”. Mélissa quickly envisaged what she wanted to do and, the very next day, she went to the edge of the quay between the outer wall of the Réattu Museum and the Rhône. She observed the water, the clouds, the atmosphere, the square windows of the stone wall and in the evening she immediately began to paint.

Mélissa won 3rd prize in the competition. A wonderful surprise for her; she even had to reread the e-mail announcing the news several times!

Congratulations again to her for this great achievement!
